How much does French tuition cost?

How long are the lessons?

Most lessons run for 60 minutes, though 90-minute sessions are available for students preparing for exams or adults who prefer a more immersive session. We can agree the best format for you when we chat.

How do online lessons work?

Lessons take place online via video call — you just need a device with a camera and microphone and a stable internet connection. I share resources, worksheets and exercises in real time, so it feels just as interactive as face-to-face teaching.

How often should I have lessons?

Most students benefit from one lesson per week, with independent practice in between. For intensive exam preparation, two lessons per week can make a significant difference. We will agree a schedule that suits you.

Do you offer a trial lesson?

What qualifications do you have?

I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and am a current AQA GCSE French examiner — a role I have held for four years. I was also a former AQA AS-level examiner. I am a native French speaker with 28 years of teaching experience across all levels from Year 7 to postgraduate.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, I hold an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate, which is the highest level of check available. This is renewed regularly and covers working with children and vulnerable adults.

Are you a native French speaker?

Yes — French is my first language. Teaching with a native speaker means you hear authentic pronunciation, natural idioms and real cultural context from day one, which makes a significant difference to fluency and confidence.

What exam boards do you cover?

I specialise in AQA French at GCSE and A-level, and have direct examiner experience of the AQA mark scheme. I also teach students on other boards including Edexcel and OCR — please ask if you are unsure.

What age groups do you teach?

I teach school students from Year 7 through to A-level (Year 13), as well as adult learners at all levels from complete beginner (A1) to near-native (C2). Whatever your starting point, I can help you progress.

Can you help with GCSE French?

Absolutely — GCSE French is one of my core specialisms. As a current AQA GCSE examiner I know exactly what the mark scheme rewards, which means I can help students pick up marks efficiently across all four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Can you help with A-level French?

Yes. I teach A-level French across all components, including the literary and film texts, essay writing, translation and the speaking exam. My examiner background means I understand precisely what distinguishes a good answer from an excellent one.

I am a complete beginner as an adult — is that okay?

Absolutely. Many of my adult students start with no French at all. Lessons for beginners focus on building confidence quickly — practical vocabulary, everyday phrases and clear explanations of how the language works — so you can start using French from the very first session.

Can you help me prepare for a French language exam such as DELF or DALF?

Yes — I can prepare adult learners for official French language qualifications including DELF (A1–B2) and DALF (C1–C2), which are internationally recognised certificates issued by the French Ministry of Education.
